The Arterial Route

Inspired by the ancient process of cartography, the location of this residence being on the cusp of Sydney’s Central Business District – where busy transit converges in all directions – saw us take this idea and detail the interior objects to act as individual pieces. When curated, these pieces act to form a grid, achieving ultimate linear perspective and guiding the human eye. A map, in its essence, has no vocabulary- no lexicon of precise meanings. It communicates in lines, hues, tones, coded symbols, and empty spaces, much like music. This is conveyed within the interior of this private residence where a formal living room onlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge motorway sees a wave of coloured lines repeat in patterns from day to night. These repeated contours are reiterated in the interior through the directional lines within the joinery elements, rugs, woven furniture upholstery and detailed lines.
